COP 25

This year marks the 25th meeting  of the Conference of Parties (COP 25) held under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The COP 25 meeting will be hosted by Chile and take place in Madrid, Spain, where 195 countries will look to ensure effective implementation of the Paris Agreement from COP-21, as it comes into force. The timeline for the COP is December 2nd through December 13th 2019.

COP25 will center on four key priorities:

  1. Drive up ambition: increase ambitions in national climate commitments as parties are required to update their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) in 2020.
  2. Resolve rules on Article 6: decide implementation rules and common time frame for the execution of international voluntary carbon markets.
  3. Integrate loss and damage: review and improve the performance of Warsaw International Mechanism (WIM) to address loss and damage.
  4. Advance climate finance and capacity-building: enhance replenishment of Green Climate Fund (GCF) and capacity-building to foster global transition to low-carbon economy.
